Ceramics Exploration

During my internship at Hallmark I had a chance to explore my creative voice in the Ceramics Studio! You may remember I traveled to Spain last March, and I decided to create ceramics pieces inspired by the many beautiful doors I photographed.

These are just a few of the many beautiful doors I saw as we traveled from city to city. I loved the geometric shapes and the details. When it came time to start creating I decided I wanted to simplify the forms I was seeing to bring out my favorite pieces.

I grew up taking clay classes in the summer, but I am by no means experienced when it comes to ceramics. I documented the entire process to help me remember the steps I took and to see how the pieces evolved. There is a certain element of uncertainty in ceramics which is exciting and nerve-wracking at the same time. The plate I was sure would be my least-favorite ended up being the one I have displayed at home. I was thankful to have this time during my internship to make and explore a less familiar medium. To take a look at other work I created during my summer internship head on over to my portfolio

A Paper Forest

Tinybop recently relased their second app called PLANTS! Kelli Anderson and Daniel Dunnam created a wonderful cut-paper stop motion video to explore how a child would view this app and explore the forest itself. i first came across the lovely video by Jacob Krupnick which documented the making of Kelli and Daniel's video. As a designer, I was fascinated to see the behind-the-scenes process that took place and the amount of detail that went into each and every frame. I also included a link to the video which shows the app itself. The artwork featured within the app was done by Marie Caudry. I loved seeing how her artwork influenced the cut-paper video.

In other news, my life has been somewhat of a whirlwind for the past month. Between senior show, my graduation, and this week marking the beginning of my internship with Hallmark I have not had much downtime to devote to blogging. I am extremely excited to dive back into sharing things that inspire me and projects I am working on. I also hope to share some of my experience in the Lettering Studio. After only two days I can already tell this summer will be a wonderful creative experience.

The Animal Print Shop

While browsing the latest issue of Vanity Fair I absolutely fell in love with an animal print featuring an elephant. Immediately I started browsing The Animal Print Shop's website. An online art gallery and store, Sharon Montrose and her husband Spencer operate the site, along with their team. While best known for the series Little Darlings, each animal print is unique and beautifully photographed. Especially wonderful is their commitment to offering a range of prices. Hopefully I will be the proud owner of one of these prints soon! The hardest part will be deciding which one...

Rachel Castle

Sometime last year I came across Castle. Immediately I was enthralled by the bright colors and the eclectic feel. Rachel Castle is an artist living in Sydney, Australia focusing on creating objects for the homeware industry. Recently I have found myself following artists and owners of Etsy shops on Instagram, and Rachel Castle is no exception! Visit her website or Instagram and I'm sure you will fall in love with these bright pieces as well!
